New support for sarcoma patients

A cancer patient from Norfolk is to set up the region’s first Sarcoma support group.

Tony Grover, from Fakenham, decided to establish the group following treatment for this rare form of bone and soft tissue cancer last year.

His treatment at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and Royal Marsden Hospitals in London was successful and now he feels it is time to help others through their journey.

Tony said: “I was lucky as mine wasn’t so aggressive. But people who have this form of cancer can feel very alone, as it affects only one per cent of cancer patients. I wanted to do something to reach out to them.”

Tony is being supported by his consultant at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and by Sarcoma UK. He also has the support of the Big C Cancer Centre in Norwich, where meetings of the group will be held.

The first meeting of the East Anglian Sarcoma Support Network is to be on January 25, 1-3pm. Anyone affected by sarcoma, whether a patient or family member/carer, is invited to attend.
